It's not easy straddling that fine line between alt.rock and metal, but this Massachusetts combo pulls off that tricky balancing act thanks to some sharp, concise songwriting and vocalist Sean Gallagher's impressive range, which leaps from power-ballad wail to power-metal roar. "Shockwave" kicks major butt with its hard-rock riffage and Gallagher's forceful funk-metal vocal, which reminds me of longtime Jersey Beat faves Anthrophobia. "Lonely" mellows out a bit for a taste of Alice In Chains-styled angstcore, while the title track turns things up full-throttle for an invigorating action-rock workout. The playing is technical and skillful throughout but never overbearing; concise pop song structures keep any potential prog-metal excesses in check, making "Don't Look Back" a solid and promising intro from this group. ``
